Course Units: (1 term)
· Meal and kitchen management, including manners, table settings, safety and sanitation, and organization and management of kitchens and resources.
· Food preparation, including recipes/Cookies and Baking
· Quickbreads
· Dairy products
· Fruits and vegetables/Phytochemicals
· Eggs
Grading: Final grade term will be based on weighted categories for the following activities:
· Classroom portion: Small group work, article and video reflections, projects, daily assignment work, labs, guest speaker reflections, quizzes, and exams. These categories are subject to change at the instructor’s discretion.
· Categories and percentages:
25% Labs and lab evaluations 15% Daily work and assignments
40% Tests and quizzes 20% Final Exam
· Grading Scale:
A+: 100-98 A: 97-93 A-: 92-90
B+: 89-87 B: 86-83 B-: 82-80
C+: 79-77 C: 76-73 C-: 72-70
D+: 69-67 D: 66-63 D-: 62-60
F: 59 and below
Course Requirements: Each student is responsible for the following supplies
· 3 ring binder: To put copies of worksheets in for the entire class.
· Notebook: Each student is expected to keep an organized notebook of all class notes, daily assignments, projects, and other related items. It will be used daily and is required for each class meeting.
· Writing utensils (pens and pencils).
· Hair tie, if your hair is shoulder length or longer. Aprons are supplied.
· Assignments and projects: Assignments must be completed prior to class and submitted when requested with your full name and class period.** See note for makeup work expectations. Be diligent in your responsibility to identify your work. Items submitted after the due date will not receive credit unless prior arrangements are secured before the due date. Many assignments and projects will be completed in class.
Attendance:
· The attendance and tardy policy of Waukee High School will be followed. Excessive absences and tardies will result in parent/teacher/student conference and possibly office referral.
· Make-up work is located in the class file box labeled “Make-Up Work”. It is the student’s responsibility to check and collect the daily lesson plan and attached work. Written make-up work must be completed within one day for each absence, not to exceed 4 days, unless prior arrangements are secured. Credit will not be given for absences qualified as “unexcused”. Work not completed within the allowed time period will receive half credit. Work not submitted within two weeks of the absence will not receive credit. All missed work must be completed, including labs (at student’s expense).
Classroom expectations: We are all in this together! Miss Calvert’s responsibility is to provide a climate where all students feel safe and encouraged to learn. Student responsibility includes ownership of individual behavior and attitude. This means everyone is the classroom shares in the responsibility for learning.
Students are expected to…
· Be informed of and abide by school rules and regulations as outlined in the student handbook.
· Be prepared for class daily. Have required supplies ready and assigned work completed.
· Make it a habit to do your very best work-both in the classroom and labs. These habits will allow you to develop and practice essential employability skills.
· Be respectful of the school and classroom members, including dress, language, behavior, actions, and school equipment. Horseplay and refusal to share the lab responsibilities will not be tolerated. Students will be immediately sent to the dean, receiving a “0” for the lab grade.
· Recognize individual differences between people, and work to understand those differences.
· Follow teacher instructions first time given.
· You will be required to read and sign the safety and sanitation guidelines before labs begin. These guidelines must be followed to ensure everyone’s health and safety in labs.
· Follow recipe directions as they are written with amounts that are given (no additions or deletions unless okayed by me ahead of time).
· All outside food, beverages, cell phones, and electronic devices will be confiscated. IF STUDENT COMES TO CLASS UNPREPARED AND HAS TO RETURN TO LOCKER DURING CLASS, THE STUDENT WILL RECEIVE A TARDY.

- Fighting, threatening others, willful disobedience, insubordination, obscene language or gestures, or mistreatment of property will result in immediate office referral.
